February Update

Following the annual Bird Walk held in January we have decided to try and build up a picture of the different birds that are found on the site by undertaking regular Bird Surveys—and you can help us with these. There are forms available in the café or we can e-mail you a copy if you want one. All you need to do is keep a note of what different birds you see when in the park and at the end of each month bring the form back to the office (or email it) and we can then compile a list of sightings. These will be used to build up a picture of what birds are here and we can then consider how we might attract other birds to the site.

Next week is half term and there is another Junior Golf Camp for children between 5 and 15 years. This will take place from Tuesday to Friday, February 22nd to 25th. There are a few places left and these can be reserved by calling the golf shop on 429 2440. Cost is £10 per child per session. Also, Greg Lynch, our golf pro, is starting a new Six Week Golf Taster Course. This is for adults new to golf or who want to brush up on their skills, and starts on Saturday February 26th from 3.30 to 4.30 pm. The cost for the 6 weeks is £30, and places should be booked through the golf shop.

You will be glad to know that work will be starting shortly on the boggy part of the children’s playground. This work has been needed for some time and although money is tight the Trustees are anxious that it is done as soon as possible so that the problem is rectified before the playground gets busy again.

We are sad to say that Joe Cooper, our Future Jobs trainee, leaves us in a couple of weeks when his scheme comes to an end. Joe has been a great asset to the groundstaff during his placement with us and we wish him well for the future. Sadly, the whole scheme has come to an end so we will not have another trainee to replace Joe.

A couple of weeks ago the Board of Trustees and Viv Cole, Trust Manager, held their annual planning day. This was to review the previous year’s work and budget and to set priorities for the coming year. The trustees are aware that money will be tight in the coming year and have had to plan the budget accordingly, but the day was very positive in determining what the priorities will be over the next few months, as many things can happen without money. If you are interested in knowing more about this please contact the office and we can send you a copy of the Strategic Plan for the year.

The volunteers had a successful Sunday morning planting trees at the end of January. The trees in the tree nursery are now also growing well and one has already been transplanted into the meadow. It’s great to know that these have come from seeds collected in the park and will be the trees for future generations.
