End of November Update

Santa is coming to the Woods twice this year.  On Saturday  December 10th he will be in his grotto for children to visit him from 1 pm until 3.45 pm.  You must book a slot for this session (NOW FULLY BOOKED).  There will be no other activities that day although the café will be open until 4 pm.  On Sunday December 11th Santa will be coming to the Fountain at 4 pm and riding his sleigh through the Woods to his grotto where he will see children until 6.30 pm.  These times cannot be booked and children will have to queue.  Also on Sunday there will be refreshments available—hot chestnuts, mince pies, chocolate fountain, mulled wine and more—and there will be Tombola, children’s activities, carol singing etc during the afternoon/early evening in and around the Pavilion.

We need more prizes for the tombola. These do not need to be expensive, so if you have any unwanted gifts, tins of food or drink etc that we could use please drop them in to the office or shop.  Thank you!

Stuck for a Christmas present?  Why not give a Golf Voucher?  This can be  either for lessons with Greg the professional, a round of golf, or for golf accessories.  All prices of vouchers are available in the shop.

Also we have new stock in for Christmas.  There are new designs of  Christmas Cards,   a new  Warley Woods jigsaw,  the book, Vintage Images of Warley Woods and also a  Warley Woods Calendar with scenes of the woods during the year.  These are available from the shop or  here on line (see the link to our shop in the top right hand corner). There are lots of other things for sale in the shop so do come and browse and buy—opening hours are 9 am to 4 pm weekdays and 8 am to 4 pm at weekends.

The Oral History Project will be getting under way in the new year with a training session for all those who would like to do some of the interviews.  This will take place on Saturday 25th February from 10 am until 4 pm.   This session will be for those people who definitely want to take part in the project and also for others who are not sure but would like to find out more.  Please ring Viv at the office for more details (420 1061) and to book a place.

The running group, Warley Woods Pacers goes from strength to strength, with a lot of the group running in the recent Birmingham Half Marathon.  You don’t have to be up to that standard to join, however!  All levels welcome, and help and support will be given. Contact Nigel, the organiser, on 07785 342366 for more details.

Another Christmas present idea  –  give someone Trust Membership for a year. Only £6 a year individual or £12 for a family or perhaps sponsor a tree in their name? Alternatively, if you’re not a member yet perhaps you should join yourself.  Application forms available at the shop or on the downloads page here.

From time to time we have groups of corporate volunteers who help in the Woods, and recently groups from HSBC have been helping our Monday volunteers.  It has been great to work with them, and has certainly made the tasks easier! Hopefully they will be sending groups through December and January as well, and we’d just like to say thank you for giving up your time to do some of the less attractive jobs in the park, such as pulling out brambles and nettles and sweeping leaves.   If your company wants to send a group please contact the office and we will try and arrange a date.

Finally, thanks to all who came to the Quiz last week. The hall was packed and although some of the questions were a bit hard it appeared that people had enjoyed the evening.  Also, we raised over £175 for the Trust.
