End of June Update

The rain is putting a dampener on everything this summer, but let’s hope the Picnic in the Park on Sunday July 15th will be dry and sunny.  Bearwood Promoters have organised the musical line up; Companion Care Vets are sponsoring the event and have done a lot of work on the Dog Show; there will be children’s activities, lots of stalls, Bootcamp, Zumba, golf, football and more besides.  Bring along a picnic and spend the afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of Warley Woods.  Music starts at 1 pm and finishes at about 6 pm. The Dog Show is at 2 pm.    We will need volunteers to help at the picnic—stewarding, looking after the Trust stall, collecting litter, shaking the collection buckets etc. In addition we need more face painters. If you can spare an hour or so for any of these tasks please contact Kathy at the office (420 1061).  We also need your old books and tombola prizes.  Please drop anything you can provide into the shop or office as soon as possible.
The Tree Walk led by Chris Shortis in May was not as long as he would have liked.   He did not have the opportunity of going to the old Abbey site and looking at the interesting trees round there, ones often specially planted when the Abbey was in its heyday. He would be happy to lead another walk in the autumn covering that area, and we need to gauge whether there is enough interest.  Perhaps you could send a quick e-mail or phone the office if you might be interested—it doesn’t commit you to anything.
Despite the torrential rainfall our open air theatre performance, Much Ado about Nothing, went ahead as planned.  The audience all kept dry, but the actors were soaked! See the review in the current edition of the Lealfet, out this week.
The children’s summer golf camp will be taking place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between July 31st and August 24th. More details available soon. Call in or ring the shop (429 2440) to book a place.   Our annual Bat Walk will take place on Friday August 17th starting at 8.15 pm.  Just turn up on the night.  There will be a small charge.
We’re pleased to announce that Fastsigns are sponsoring All About Dogs this year.  This is taking place on Sunday 9th September from 11 am onwards. Fastsigns have provided many of the signs that we have in the park and we are delighted that they have agreed to sponsor this event.
The Green Flag judging was held on Friday June 15th and the judge seemed to think that we had something a bit special here.  However, we’re still waiting for the result of the assessment and the feedback.  Hopefully this will give us some guidance on further improvements that we can make to the site in the coming months.  We should hear by the second week of July.
