End of August Update
Despite the weather there’s been plenty going on here this summer. The children’s golf summer school has seen over 140 local children have the opportunity to play golf in fun conditions while learning some of the basics of the game at the same time. Greg and his assistant Charlotte have done a great job and it is hoped that many of them will continue their interest by joining the winter junior club on Saturday and Sunday mornings from September through to March. Anyone else interested please contact the shop for details (429 2440) This activity was funded by Sandwell Play Service.
There’s also been Forest Play activities in the Woods where children have learnt the basic skills of outdoor activities. The final 2 sessions take place on Wednesday and Thursday 29th and 30th. Check on 0845 3527853 to see if there are any places left for these days.
On Saturday, September 1st an Eco Party will be held in the Woods between 12 noon and 3 pm. This is for children of any age and it is hoped that their parents/carers will stay as well. If more adults stay it means there can be a larger group. There will be crafts, sculpture and games in an outdoor environment. The session is being run by Stephen Whitehead who has done forest school training in the past. Please come to the Pavilion any time between 12 and 3 and the shop staff will direct you to the place where the activities are taking place. No need to book in advance.
Over 60 people turned up for the Bat Walk and although the weather wasn’t great some bats were heard and seen. Thanks to Chris Sherlock from Brumbats for leading the walk and also bringing in an injured bat which she has been caring for. It gave everyone a chance to see a bat close up. Following on from that, our next nature walk is one new to us – a Fungi Walk. This will be led by Bill Moodie, a long standing trust member and a fungi expert, and will take place on Saturday October 6th starting at 10 am. No booking required, just come to the Pavilion. All About Dogs , now a regular event on the Warley Woods calendar, takes place on Sunday September 9th from 11am until 4pm. There will be lots of dog activities during the day, and registration for the Dog Show will be from 10 am onwards. All activities will take place in the meadow area. Thanks to Fastsigns who are sponsoring this event for the first time this year.
Our second training session for the Oral History project takes place on Saturday September 15th from 10am to 3pm. Booking for this is essential – contact the office to book or for more details if you are interested in taking part. (420 1061).
Thanks to everyone who has donated to the Fountain Appeal. We are exploring the offer of help from a volunteer which could reduce the costs. We’ll keep you informed on progress.
