The wonderful sunshine brought the people of Bearwood out in their thousands for the Picnic in the Park last Sunday. The bands played—thanks to Bearwood Promoters for organising the music; the dogs paraded and won rosettes—thanks to Companion Care Vets; the stalls saw lots of visitors, both buying and curious—thanks to all the stallholders who gave up their time to be there; children played and bounced, groups ate fabulous picnics, teams held tug of war competitions and much more went on as well. Thanks particularly to the group of staff and volunteers who gave up their time to organise and run the event—it really is an important fixture in the Bearwood calendar. About 130 pictures from the day, taken by Mike Inch, are in an album on our Facebook group (Warley Woods Community Trust) —so if you haven’t joined why not do so now and relive the events of a glorious sunny summer afternoon.
It’s great to hear the news that Lightwoods Park have got a Heritage Lottery grant of £3.6 million to restore the house and park. It will be wonderful to have two fabulous green spaces in the area and we look forward to seeing the changes over the next few years.

The veteran beech tree is coming down this summer. We’re not sure of the exact date, but it is likely to be in mid August. We are inviting people to come and watch, ask questions of our tree expert, see woodcarvers at work and tell us what YOU think should happen to the wood. We’ll keep you informed.
