End of October Update
Despite the days getting shorter and the weather cooler there’s still plenty going on in the Woods over the next few weeks. On Thursday October 31st there will be Spooky Trail in the Woods. Come to the Pavilion any time between 6 pm and 7.30 and pick up a map to follow the trail and see and hear the ghosts of Warley Woods. Find the hidden letters on the way to discover the secret word—and claim your prize! Cost is £1.50 per person (children and adults) and there will be drinks available in the pavilion afterwards.
On Friday November 15th we will be having our annual fundraising Quiz at St Hilda’s Church Hall starting at 7.30 pm. So come along with your team of up to 6 people, bring your own (alcoholic) drinks, and test your knowledge against that of the wicked question setters. As usual there will be snacks, tea, coffee and soft drinks available to buy. Cost is only £3 per person and all profits go to supporting the Trust.
B i r m i n g h a m Astronomical Society are back on Sunday November 17th with their telescopes and the promise of a clear sky (!) so that you can learn more about the stars and planets. The event will take place between 7pm and 9 pm at the Pavilion. Cost is £3 for adults and free for children. There will be talks in the pavilion as well as the opportunity to be outside looking through the telescopes.
Brand new Warley Woods Christmas Cards will be on sale in the shop from the beginning of next week. Packs of 4 will cost £1.95 or you can buy 3 packs for £5.50. Also the 2014 Bearwood Calendars can be bought at the shop as well as many other locally sourced items. We have Simon Lea’s beautiful mounted photos of the woods at only £10 each which would make great Christmas presents. So come up and have a browse and spend your money! Income from the golf course is still low so anything you spend in the shop helps to bring in much needed money to help with the running of the Trust.
Next week is half term next week and as usual we have activities for children. The Golf Camp will take place on Monday 28th, Wednesday 30th October and Friday 1st November. 4-8 years from 10am to 12pm, 9-14 years from 12.30 pm –2.30 pm. Sessions are FREE but must be booked in advance. Ring the golf shop on 429 2440 to reserve a place. Forest Schools, run by Sandwell play service will also be back. On Thursday 31st October from 10 am to 12 pm Forest Friends will be out playing. This session is for 4-7 year-olds and children must be accompanied by parents/carers. Also on Thursday 31st there will be Forest Play for 8-14 year olds. Here you can learn the art of den building, tree climbing, arts and crafts and campfire activities. The time is from 10 am—3 pm. Places are free but must be booked in advance on 0845 352 7853 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Meet at the Pavilion car park.
The Trust AGM took place on Saturday October 12th and over 40 people attended. Barbara Platts was elected as a new trustee and we welcome her to the board. The changes to the constitution which had been circulated to members in advance were agreed by the meeting.
Finally, we have just appointed a new apprentice groundsperson. Billy Maddison will be joining Kelvin and Matt next Monday and we welcome him to the Trust and the staff team.
