May Update

The sun is shining, the temperature is rising and now is a great time to come and enjoy Warley Woods. We are getting lots of compliments about the golf course so why not come and have a round? There are twilight offers—play after 5 pm and only pay £7 for 9 holes or £10 for 18 holes. In addition you can pay an annual fee, valid until March 31st 2015. This costs £365 (£280 seniors) for unlimited rounds at any time or any day.

Another way to enjoy Warley Woods would be to come on a guided walk round the site on Wednesday May 21st with Professor Ian Trueman from Wolverhampton University, and learn about the various botanical features that can be found. The walk will cover both the open spaces and the woodland area, and Professor Trueman’s knowledge should make this a very special event! No booking needed—just turn up at the Pavilion for a 7.30 pm start. Cost £2.50 for adults, children free. With luck you might also see one of the beautiful sunsets across the Woods which we have been having recently.

Invitations have now been sent out for the Volunteers’ Thankyou evening on Monday June 2nd. We’re sorry if you have done some volunteering over the last year but haven’t received your invitation—our systems aren’t perfect! Please let us know at the office and we’ll get an invitation out to you and you will be very welcome (420 1061)

Greg will again be running his Junior Golf Camps during the half term holiday. These will be on Wednesday 28th and Friday 30th May. Ages 5-9 will be 10 am until 12 noon. For 10-16 year olds the times are 12.30 until 2.30 pm. The cost is £10 per child per session. There are prizes and trophies to be won! Please contact the shop for more information—429 2440. Just also to mention that there are a few spaces left on the Junior Golf Sunday Club from 12 noon to 1.00 pm with Nathan for the following dates: May 18th; June1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. Please contact the shop for details.

Are you a member of Warley Woods Community Trust? If you have read this far down the e-mail it suggests that you are interested in what is happening here, and by becoming a member you can, for a very small price, indicate your support for the Trust and its care of the site. You can join online or you can pick up a form in the shop or office. Please consider joining us and having a say in what we do and how best we can care for Warley Woods.

Plans are now gearing up for the Picnic in the Park on Sunday July 13th. If you have anything that might be suitable for the tombola stall, any second hand books that you no longer want, or are able to make a cake for the cake stall we would like to hear from you! Tombola items and books can be brought to the office/shop at any time. If you can make a cake please let Kathy at the office know and she will add your name to the list (420 1061). Also if you are interested in helping out on the day or having a stall at the Picnic please contact Kathy.
Warley Day is the annual opportunity for everyone who plays golf at Warley to enjoy a good day’s golf together. This year it is on Saturday June 21st. The day is open to all golfers and is a good opportunity for those who are not members of the golf club to meet others who are, and learn about the club and its activities. There are prizes and trophies—including a good prize for a hole in one. If you would like to come and have an enjoyable day playing golf please ring or call in at the shop (429 2440) to book your place.
We often have corporate volunteers who come and do a day’s work on the site for us, and this year HSBC bank have been particularly generous with their time. Enthusiastic young people have gone home with aching muscles but a real sense of achievement at having made a difference to the park and Woods. So thanks very much to HSBC for all their hard work, and if your employer is looking for the opportunity to help in the community by sending a group to the Woods please contact Viv Cole, the Trust Manager (4201061) to discuss what options are available.
Our Theatre in the Woods performance on Sunday August 3rd at 7.30 pm is Macbeth. Once again the wonderful Heartbreak Productions will be performing the play and we’re looking forward to a great evening. Tickets can be bought through here and from the shop at the Pavilion from June 1st.
