September Update

We have a number of events coming up in October. If you are a member of the Trust, then please come along to the AGM on Saturday 18th October at 2pm. It is your chance to hear what has been going on, what our future plans are and ask any questions.   We also have a Fungi Walk on Saturday 25th October at 10am, led by Fungi Expert and Warley Woods member, Bill Moodie. Meet at the Pavilion. £2 for adults and children free. There will be our annual Halloween Trail on offer on 31st October from 6pm if you would like to explore the Woods in the dark and hear some of the ghostly stories.

Warley Woof

If you walk your dog in Warley Woods, then please think about joining Warley Woof. You can read more about it in this leaflet.

Nature Improvement Area Project

We are about to start work on the second year of our project to improve some of the areas of the woodland that are declining. This will mean felling some trees where they are congested and creating glades for understory plants and younger trees to have the chance to develop. This autumn and winter we will be felling within a group of trees on Barclay Road and then planting plants and seeds there in the spring. Pupils from two local schools will be helping with planting the new trees in that area in January.

Thanks to funding from Sandwell MBC we will have a free golf camp for young people during half term. Keep an eye out on notice boards and our website for more information or email if you would like to be amongst the first to hear about it.

Community Relationship Database Project

We have been very lucky to have been awarded a grant from Heritage Lottery Fund to help us improve our databases, our communications and our shop till. We will need to employ a part time member of staff to administrate and manage this project. Please look out on our website in early October for information on this.

How can you help?

  • Would you like to help support Warley Woods . If so there are three ways you can help without directly donating a single penny.
Please vote for Warley Woods in the national vote for the UK’s favourite green space. Voting ends at the end of September—just click here to go to our page to vote.
  •  If you have the Express and Star please look out for their Cash for Communities tokens and donate them to Warley Woods. We are one of 100 charities who will be awarded a share of £30,000 prize fund. How much we get, will depend on how many tokens we hand in, so every token will count.
  •  If you shop online then please register with “Give as you live” . Hundreds of shops will give a donation to Warley Woods when you shop with them. This comes out of your purchase prices and doesn’t cost you anything extra. For example we get 50p every time someone has a food delivery from Sainsbury’s. We get 1.5% from Amazon, 1.75% from the Trainline, even a bit from Ebay purchases.   With Christmas coming up, we’d really appreciate a tiny piece of your Christmas buying
