Our Commitment to the Environment Warley Woods Community Trust is committed to improving sustainability and promoting biodiversity. We are proud to be a Green Flag Park and our environmental actions are informed by the Green Flag Award Guidance. We strive to ensure that good environmental practice is considered in all Trust decisions. The Trust’s Environmental Policy and Procedures can be found here. What we are doing Reducing waste and conserving energy Lights are replaced with LED bulbs as they fail. We upgraded to more efficient boiler and installed double-glazing. We are continually working on reducing unnecessary printing and we recycle office waste. We use recycled paper for our printed publications. We are reducing the use of single-use plastics at events. In The Shop at The Pavilion, we consider the environment when we choose what we sell. We now use compostable cups and sell bamboo rather than plastic golf tees. Bird food is now sold in refillable paper packets. We installed rainwater collection tanks for the tree nursery which provided all the water needed in the summer of 2022. We are using waterproof posters for our regular notices to reduce the use of laminating pouches. Reducing Chemical Use Golf course chemical usage is monitored and organic alternatives used wherever possible. We use ecobug urinal caps – a water and bleach-free urinal cleaning system. Enhancing Biodiversity We have increased water bodies on site with more to come. We are managing habitats to promote native flora. We are surveying flora and fauna, sharing and interpreting findings. For example Breeding Bird Survey Planning for resilience in a changing climate We do not use peat or buy in plants grown in peat-based compost. We are planting appropriate species of trees and looking to the long term adaptation. We are monitoring natural water on site. Protecting and preserving Nature We have improved the percentage of the site which has SINC/ SLINC* designation over the last 5 years. We involve volunteers in practical conservation activities. We are raising awareness of Nature through leaflets and engagement activities. *Site of Importance for nature conservation/Site of Local Importance for nature conservation If taking care of the natural world is important to you, then please join us in our work and become a member of the Warley Woods Community Trust Join us Manage Cookie Preferences
