Betterpoints

Reward yourself. Reward a charity of your choice (we hope it would be Warley Woods of course). What could be better?

BetterPoints is a reward programme with a difference.

It encourages you to do something good – for you, your health or your community – and everyone benefits.

How do you earn BetterPoints?

It’s simple: download the app from the App Store or Google Play and record what you’re doing. Take up a healthy activity: like walking, running or cycling.  You collect Betterpoints for all the time you spend on this activity (there is a maximum you can earn each week), but the app will keep a record of your activity and your progress to help keep you motivated.

When you are ready you can either spend your points and claim a voucher for yourself, or you can donate the points to one of the partner charities – Warley Woods Community Trust is a partner.  It can be a bit tricky to find us in the app, so most people who have donated to us, pop onto the website to do this, where you can search for charities and find Warley Woods easily.

You can go to the Betterpoints website through here.

Bird Box Live

Our bird box with a camera has residents this year.  Two blue tits, now named Sam (uel) and Lucy after the first owners of Warley Park have laid a clutch of eight eggs and are now incubating them.  Many thanks to Di Kerr who donated the box, Abbie Kendrick who donated the monitor and John Tunrbull who installed all the technicals.  The monitor is in the café at the Pavilion and you can come and see what they are up to during our opening hours.  7am – 6pm weekends and 8am – 7pm weekdays.  The café closes at 3-3.30, but the shop serves icecreams, hot drinks and snacks after the café closes.

Here are the eggs and click here to see a short video of Lucy on the nest.

Calling All Photographers

2018 is the 200th anniversary of Humphry Repton’s death. He was a nationally renowned landscape architect who designed Warley Woods and Park in the 1790s for the Galton family.

International Garden Photographer of the Year have teamed up with the National Trust and National Trust at Sheringham Park, to celebrate the work of Humphry Repton, in a new special award.

Repton was seen as the successor to Capability Brown. He was involved in approximately 400 commissions nationwide including at least eight National Trust sites in addition to Sheringham Park including: Antony (Cornwall), Ashridge (Hertfordshire), Attingham (Shropshire), Hatchlands (Surrey), Plas Newydd (Anglesey, Wales), Tatton Park (Cheshire), Uppark (West Sussex) and Wimpole (Cambridgeshire).

He was famous for producing his designs in Moroccan red leather books.

To celebrate the anniversary there is a national photographic competition which is looking for photos of Repton landscapes in the present day. See this link for details https://igpoty.com/competitions/humphry-repton-2017/
We know lots of visitors to the woods take photos so here is your chance to reach a wider audience and have the chance to win a photography competition. Get snapping!
