We are looking for someone who will be able to fill the very important post of Deputy Head Greenkeeper and Park Supervisor.  This will be to take over from Roger Haslam when he retires – after over 40 years at Warley Woods.  The information applicants need can be found on our downloads page.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page for our letter for applicants, job description and application form.  If you are new to Warley Woods you might like to read the introduction to Warley Woods leaflet which can be found on the same page.   Closing date is Monday 5th September and applications can be emailed.

Picnic Photos 2011

Mike Inch has delivered all of the official photos from the Picnic today.  Over 1,500 images!  We’ve selected around 350 and have put them in three albums on our Facebook Page.  Please visit and become a member of the facebook group while you are there.  Thank you Mike – a great collection.

Just a few images here to whet your appetite. If you were there, you are likely to be in one of the photos!

Mid July Update

We had a good dry couple of hours at the Picnic on the 17th July and then some very wet ones!  Well done to everyone who came and volunteered and to the stalwarts who stood in the rain to hear the bands play.  We had better weather on 1st July when over 250 people enjoyed ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Heartbreak theatre company.  The setting in the meadow was excellent and the ‘noises off’ from the owls, the dogs and the Police helicopter all added to the atmosphere.  If you would like to write a review of the play for the next edition of the Leaflet (due to be put together in mid-August) please can you let Viv or Kathy know and they will pass your name on to the editors.

Summer Holiday Golf Camps are taking place again during the holidays. Greg Lynch, our golf professional, will be running the camps for children between the ages of 5 and 16 years.  They will be held on August 1st, 4th, 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th.  The 5-9 year old group is from 10.00 am to 1.00pm and the  10-16 year old group from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm.  Cost is £15 per day but if you book 2 days you can book a third for half price.  There is also an early booking discount—if you book and pay before July 25th the cost is £10 per day and the third day is just £5!   For more details please call the golf shop on 429 2440 or Greg on 07812 579929.

Our annual Bat Walk will take place on Wednesday August 17th. As it needs to be dusk before we can see the bats the event doesn’t start until 8 pm.  Meet at the Pavilion.  The walk will be led by the experts-Brumbats-who will have some bat detectors available for use on the night.  The cost is £3 for an adult and free for children.

The Trust is currently deciding what new merchandise to have in the shop at Christmas and we’d really like to know what kinds of products, with a Warley Woods theme, you would like us to stock.  One suggestion is that we produce a calendar with pictures of the Woods, but we’d like to hear of other ideas as well.  No promises, though, but we’ll certainly consider any suggestions made.

Warley Open Golf Competition will be held on  Saturday 20th August.  This event is organised by the Community Trust and the Golf Club and is open to all golfers.  You can win a car for a Hole in One and lots of other prizes.  Greg Lynch, the golf professional will be here all day for people to talk to and there will be an opportunity to talk to club members about the benefits of membership.  Book a place now by ringing the golf shop 429 2440 or calling in to the Pavilion.

If you come across any baby wildlife in the park or woods please can you leave it where it is.  The likelihood is that the parents are not far away and will return.  Sometimes they are brought to the Pavilion by well meaning people but this really isn’t the most helpful thing to do!  By all means come and tell someone what you have seen and then the staff can keep an eye on the situation, but please leave the babies where they are!

The Picnic is on!

Ignore the weather doom and gloom merchants.  We are still going ahead with the Picnic today.  Come and join us.  Hear local musicians play for free, enter your dog into the dog show, enjoy the children’s activities and buy lots from the stall holders.

It may not be the perfect sunny day but Warley Woods is beautiful whatever the weather and Bearwood folks know how to enjoy themselves.

See you there
