The weather was great and lots of people came out to show their support and raise money to help Warley Woods look good. Around 100 people took part – running, pushing buggies, walking their dog and few rather oddly dressed individuals turned up too. Not all of the sponsor money has come in yet, but we are hoping to break last year’s total of £1,500. More pictures on our Facebook Page
Today we had a new group of willing volunteers giving time to keep Warley Woods looking good. They were a team of staff from “Community Spaces” at Groundwork UK. They are the team that administer grants on behalf of the Big Lottery for improving green spaces. They were actually the funder for The Wilderness and they came en masse to help maintain it. They were a lovely group and even left cake behind for us!
We are often host to team days or away days of this kind. The massive person power they bring really helps to get a signficiant piece of maintenance done, all in one go. It also helps our own volunteers see improvements being made and letting them move on to the next thing on the never ending list. This year already we have been visited by Ernst and Young and other groups are booking up too. Including the third year running for Virgin Trains stalwarts, the second year running for University of Birmingham and newcomers Zurich Insurance. Thank you to all of them. There is still room for more and lots more work to come – bring your team down to Warley Woods for the day!
The final plans have now been agreed to improve the drainage in the Children’s Playground and the work will start shortly. We hope that it does not cause too much inconvenience and that as a result of the work the playground will not have as many puddles as it does at present.
We will again be organising patrols in the park during the evenings this spring and summer. It is useful to have volunteers out on a regular basis who can talk to the members of the public and keep their eyes and ears open for any problems. People go out in pairs for an hour or so and we are looking for some additional members to assist those who have said they will help. If you want to find out more about this, and what the level of commitment is, please ring Viv at the office and she’ll give you more details(420 1061).
On Tuesday May 3rd at 7.30pm there will be a meeting for anyone who is interested in looking at the biodiversity of the site and ways in which we can improve this. This will take the form of an open discussion and anyone with an interest in this area of the work of the Trust will be welcome. The meeting will be in The Pavilion

Viv’s costume has arrived! Last year it was Sylvester the Cat. This year it is Scooby Doo! Like practically every charity out there, we need to raise funds to help us continue our work and who better to help us than those people who love and use the park every day. Can you help us make 2011 a memorable fundraising year and give some time to help support the Community Trust? The sponsor form and continuation sheet can be downloaded here. Start anytime between 10am and 2pm. Offiical warm up is at 10am with Kathy Lamb of Buggyfit. Come on – you know walking is good for you and fundraising is good for the Woods.
