April-May’s Update

Come and join us on Easter Monday, April 25th for the Easter Extravaganza.  Bring your decorated egg; join in the egg rolling; take part in the Easter Trail; come to the activities in the Pavilion.  Starts at 11 am on the top of the meadow by the Upper St Mary’s Road entrance.

This year is the TENTH Picnic in the Park!  It will be on Sunday July 17th and all the usual activities and some new ones will be there.  We are planning to produce a souvenir programme available on the day and if you would like to advertise your business in the programme please can you get in touch with the office to register an interest (420 1061).

Volunteer Sunday coincides with Easter Day this year.  Anyone who wants to join us will be welcome.  It is likely that we will be concentrating on doing a litter pick to try and keep the park looking good for the rest of the weekend. Come to the Pavilion at 10.30 if you want to help.   Volunteer Monday will not take place on May Day Bank Holiday, May 2nd.  Instead there will be a litter pick on Tuesday May 3rd at 10.30 am
to clear up after the Bank Holiday.

On  Saturday  May 14th Liz Coleman from RSPB and Steve Hodgkinson from the Black Country Wildlife Trust will lead a Bird Identification morning.  This will be from 10.30 am until 12.30 pm.  The cost will be £5 for adults and free for children (suitable for those aged over 13).  Anyone attending will be the first to receive a copy of the Trust’s new bird leaflet.

Are you interested in the Biodiversity of the park?  If you are, and want to look at ways which we might improve this aspect of the site, please come to an open meeting on Tuesday May 3rd at 7.30 pm at the Pavilion.  This is the start of a process and if you can’t come to this meeting there are likely to be more in the future, so you can let the office know if you would like to be kept informed of activities of this group.

‘Pride and Prejudice’ is the play being performed in the Woods by Heartbreak Theatre Company on Friday July 1st.  Tickets will be on sale in the shop from Tuesday May 3rd, or online: www.heartbreakproductions.co.uk

New in the shop this month!  Local sustainable charcoal from the Malvern Hills at £8 per bag;  glass coasters with views of Warley Woods £2.49 each.  The Origami kits are also selling well, so come and have a look  at these and also see what else we have on sale.

Do you want to win a Fiat 500?  If so, enter the Big Prize Draw for small charities.  The tickets cost £2 and £1.90 of this comes to Warley Woods to help our funds.  Buy your tickets from the shop in the Pavilion or on line: Car draw

If you are reading this and are  a member of Warley Woods Community Trust—thank you for your support.  If you are not a member why not think about joining?  The cost is only £6 for an individual, £3 concession and £12 for a family, and you would be showing your commitment to supporting the work being done to keep the park and the golf course in great shape.  Click here to download an application form, or come to the shop and pick up a form there.

Refreshments Available until 7pm

There were quite a few comments in response to our User Survey about wanting the cafe to be open longer.  We talked to Jenny about this and had some plans for trialling evening opening this Summer.  However we’ve thought again and instead of the cafe being open late just once or twice a week, we will be providing refreshments in the shop – 7 days a week.  This will be  from when the cafe closes until the building does at 7pm or later in the week and 6pm at weekends.  We have a hot drinks machine (nice coffee too) and icecream and Jenny’s fridge will be stocked with cold drinks, chocolate, home made cake and some sandwiches.  We hope this will provide what everyone is looking for “after hours”  and it will help the Trust raise funds too.

New Term Starts for Buggyfit

The every popular Buggyfit sessions start again for a new five week term on Tuesday 26th April.  It’s always inspiring to see that group of new mums powering their way through the woods under the watchful eye of their instructor Kathy Lamb.  If you would like to find out more about exercising with your youngster with you in the open air then contact Kathy on 07730433697.

Easter Eggs Roll Again – Monday 25th April

Warley Woods Community Trust will be holding its special Easter event on Easter Monday 25th April.

There will be an Easter Egg roll down the meadow’s long bank (called the death run in snowy weather) with prizes for the egg-roller that rolls the furthest.   If you have a decorated egg, then you can enter the Painted Egg Competition.

There will also be an Easter Egg Trail with clues which will lead visitors through the Woods to the Pavilion where hot cross buns and hot drinks will be available (alongside normal café fayre) and other fun eggy activities.  There will be  a special raffle for a giant chocolate bunny, donated by Marks and Spencer.

Viv Cole, Trust Manager said “This is our fourth year of the Egg Roll and it has become a really popular event.  Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the fun – whether you are artistic, competitive, or just want an Easter stroll through the woods.”

Anyone who would like to take part should bring their hard boiled eggs (hen, duck or ostrich are all eligible) to the Upper St Mary’s entrance of Warley Woods at 11.00am.  Entry into all activities is £1.
