Professional Theatre: Taming of the Shrew: Thursday 3rd August

Heartbreak Productions have been touring the country for over 25 years with their inimitable style of open air theatre events.  Each production boasts a small but perfectly formed, multi-talented cast who interact seamlessly to encourage audiences to immerse themselves into a world of storytelling and enjoy these vibrant unique performances.

William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew is a contentious yet tender story of sexual politics. This unconventional romance tells the vibrant tale of a mismatched and combative couple in a memorable and comical mix of comedy, romance and razor sharp wit.

Everyone wants to marry Bianca, but no suitor can be found for independent and feisty Kate.  Enter Petruchio, a gamester on the make who surprises them both with a most extraordinary courtship in the electric battle of the sexes.

Brought to life with Heartbreak’s hallmark elements of live music, humour, and audience interaction, this outdoor adaptation explores how two people come to know each other and understand what is needed to create the “perfect” marriage.  A sparkling and interactive performance, keeping true to Shakespeare’s text, it provides a fresh perspective for all Shakespeare fans but serves too as a perfect introduction to his work for new audiences of all ages.

The performance takes place in the open air.  You need to bring your own seating – chairs or rugs.  The performance will go ahead whatever the weather, unless it is unsafe.

Running time: 2 hours and 20 mins inclusive of a 20 minute interval

Recommended age: 8+
